WOMEN'S LEAGUE

SAN DIEGO FALL/WINTER TENNIS LEAGUES

This is a San Diego regional program with leagues at several different levels and a Fall and a Winter season.  Each league is made up of a dozen teams from tennis clubs all over San Diego County.  Matches are played at the various tennis clubs that have teams in the league so half of the league matches for each team are played at home at LMTC and half away at other tennis clubs.

Teams are made up of 12 players (6 doubles teams) and each league match consists of a best-of-three-sets match for each doubles team.  Play and scoring are traditional format, with a standard tie-breaker game at 6 all.  The Fall season runs from September through late November and the Spring season is from January through March.

Team selection is made for each season from teams on the women's doubles Challenge Ladder, which is in the clubhouse.  The Challenge Ladder goes on year round and teams are selected for each season prior to its start.  If you are interested in playing for the next season, contact one the team captains. www.sdleaguetennis.net

CLUB GUIDELINES FOR LEAGUE TEAMS

To manage the enormous increase in league play at LMTC the following guidelines have been developed.

Please direct your questions to Doug Goodall (Leagues and Tournament Chair)
dgoodall@oncourtsd.com
TEAM RETENTION
You must maintain an active roster each consecutive season, and abide by the club rules, or you may forfeit your slot.
NEW TEAMS

In the event of a lapse in season, or new league a potential captain may submit a court requisition form requesting the new team. The LMTC Membership chair will present the requisition form to the LMTC Board for consideration.

DISPUTES

Any dispute between a LMTC league player/member or team which cannot be resolved by the captains or affected parties may be presented to the League Chair first, then Management, and finally the Board for a decision.  The board will consist of the following; All relative League captains, Chair, and Management.

All board decisions will be final and considered resolute

SEASON PREPARATION
Each captain must present a court requisition to the Leagues and Tournaments Chair and post a player signup sheet on the club bulletin board one month before that league’s roster cut-off date.  This will give all LMTC members an opportunity to participate.
ROSTERS

Each captain should fill their roster using the following methods, in this order;
1. Returning players, who are LMTC members in good standing…fees paid and current, from the preceding season
2. Recruiting from within the LMTC membership
3. New players signing up on sheet
4. Non-members – this is a last resort used to achieve the “minimum” number of players to form or maintain a team.  If a captain is unable to field
the minimum number of players from the member pool within two weeks of a roster deadline to qualify his/her team, the captain may acquire a non-member. The non-member must purchase a guest coupon book, and pay guest fees for all home game matches should the number of matches exceed the available coupons for that seasonNon-member must join the club if he/she wishes to continue another season as a LMTC league player (on any team). ALL CAPTAINS ARE EXPECTED TO ENCOURAGE MEMBERSHIP OF NON-MEMBER PLAYERS FIRST, BEFORE RESORTING TO THIS LAST METHOD.

CAPTAINS RESPONSIBILITY

Captains are expected to fill their team to its capacity.  This does not mean each player must be used equally, it is at the captain’s discretion as to how a player may be used i.e. starter, secondary, sub.

If a team acquires several new players from a signup sheet which exceeds the teams capacity the captain may hold a tryout or a challenge event to determine the most appropriate players to fill their roster.  In other words, a captain does not have to take a weaker player simply because they signed up before a stronger player. Captains are also expected to inform intended “substitute”, or “secondary” players of their intention so that player may opt out of the season before any refund cut-off date.

Team cohesiveness should be emphasized in order to provide the most enjoyable league experience for our members. Captains may cut disruptive or irresponsible players at any time.

PLAYER RESPONSIBILTY

Players are expected to be responsible by showing up on time when assigned to play, conscientious and respectful of others, representing the club in the best manner possible.  A captain may remove a player from their team for any reason, however, if a player feels the captain is unreasonable in their decision the player may present their concerns using the methods described under Disputes (see above)
WTT SPECIFIC
LMTC board has authorized three teams per division. The following process will help captains understand how their team may move within divisions.
DIVISION CHANGES FOR WTT
A team may only change division if a slot above or below is vacant based on the three team capacity limitation.
DIVISION CHANGE OPTIONS

1. If a lower team has earned two combined league wins forcing them to move up AND a team above has a poor record, they MAY agree to move down to the lower division, switching slots.

Example: a 4.0 team wins two consecutive seasons and now must move up to 4.5 or disband by 50% as per WTT rules.  A 4.5 team is struggling and its team rating is eligible for 4.0, and the captain feels his/her team may fair better at 4.0, he/she could agree to “switch” slots.

2. If a team disbands the following method will be used to determine which team may occupy the newly opened slot;

1st - the team from the adjacent lower division with a winning club record will have first option
.

2nd - a team from a division above with a qualifying team rating may move down.

3rd - a new captain forming a new team may occupy the newly opened slot.

CLUB TEAM RANKINGS
Each season your team’s ranking may change within the hierarchy based on your team’s performance within your division using the following method; Win/loss, Head to Head, Games/wins.
TEAM RANKING TIES
In the event of a tie between two or three Lake Murray teams in the same division seeking a division change; there will be a playoff between those teams to earn the open slot. The standard WTT format will be used for the event.  A coin-toss will be used to determine Home and Away status.

CHAIR'S COMMENTS

I have been granted the authority by the LMTC board to conduct league operations at my discretion. It is, and has been, my intention to create a harmonious environment for captains and players alike, while promoting and maximizing our club’s involvement in such events.

The guidelines offered above are in place to advance structure, and not designed to be used maliciously or as a cause for contention. I would like to encourage everyone at this club, involved in league play, to communicate and solve problems between themselves before concerning others i.e. Management

Please do not allow petty grievances to stymie, what should be, a fun venue of competition.

Sincerely,

Douglas Goodall
Leagues and Tournaments Chair

WOMEN'S LEAGUE CHALLENGE LADDER RULES

1
All players on the ladder or wishing to challenge onto the ladder must be current members of LMTC. Both team members must be available for at least 50% of the leagues matches played each season. The ladder is open for challenges throughout the year (Jan 3-Nov.19).

November 20 through January 2 will be considered a down time for all challenges. No challenges have to be played during this period.

2
Matches will consist of the best 2 out of 3 sets. Challenger must supply new tennis balls.
3
Any team that challenges you must be given first priority to play you before you can accept or issue another challenge.
4
If you have challenged a team that has already issued or accepted a challenge and the team accepts your challenge, you will still have the right to play that team whether they win or lose. A challenged team does not have to play another challenge before their listed challenge is complete but should do so if possible.
5
A date must be decided within 6 days of the challenge and match must be played within 2 weeks (14 days) of the challenge or it will be considered a default. Once challenge has been verbally made to 1 player of opposing team challenger must notify Emmo Tennis in order for challenge to be valid. Common courtesy dictates that you notify both partners of challenge. The team challenged must give challenger 3 or more dates to play match. Failure to offer 3 dates will be considered a default. If challenger cannot accept the dates, challenge is void. If a challenge cannot be played because of rain/emergency, match must be played within 1 week (7 days). Two (2) dates must be provided by challenged team. If there is no agreement on dates, challenge is void. If the challengers lose the match, they must wait 2 weeks (14 days) before rechallenging the same team. If challenger’s loose again to the same team, they must wait 2 months before issuing any additional challenges against the same team.
6
A new team must challenge and win to be placed on the ladder. They may challenge anywhere on the ladder the first time. If they lose they must challenge one or more places below their challenge. If they win, they take that position and each team from that position drops down one spot. If existing team loses, they must wait 7 days before issuing a challenge back. New teams must challenge and play by 7/1 for Fall League and 11/1 for Winter League.
7
Lower teams may challenge up to 2 positions on the ladder but you must challenge the team directly above you first. If they cannot play due to another challenge, unprotected vacation, or un-protected illness, you may then challenge the team above them. You must be available throughout the year to accept challenges. If you do not have a valid reason (challenge, vacation, medical leave), challenger will be considered the winner. If players do not notify Emmo Tennis of vacation, illness, or injury, then position on the ladder is not protected.
8
A medical leave (not to exceed 4 weeks) may be granted during which time your team cannot be challenged. And your challenger must wait until your protected time is over to challenge you or anyone above you. You must receive approval from Emmo Tennis. You must notify Emmo Tennis of medical leaves and challenges between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. , Monday thru Friday.
9
Each player will be given 3 weeks of vacation a year during which time your team cannot be challenged. Anyone challenging you must wait until you get back to challenge you or anyone above you. You must notify Emmo Tennis prior to vacation.
10
A challenge Ladder Committee consisting of team captains will meet to discuss any disputes and will present results to the Board Chairperson for approval.
11
Challenges for existing teams must be completed by 8/1 for Fall League and 11/20 for Winter League unless the roster due date is changed by League Manager. Check board for details.
12
Doubles Ladder rules are governed by USTA rules unless Board has ruled otherwise.
13
LMTC Board has final approval on all league rules
